Activities

The Home makes all necessary arrangements to promote a range of activities and appropriate levels of stimulation that are in accordance with each service user’s needs. Service users are encouraged to participate in ‘group activities’ and spend some part of the day away from their bedrooms. Again, service users are encouraged to add input as to which activities they prefer/would like. Care staff are responsible for ensuring that service user’s preferences are considered.
Residents’ choices to refrain from taking part in any activity will be respected and an alternative sought to suit the individuals’ preferences and needs; their family, friends and representatives will also be consulted about their previous life choices and history to assist us with this.
It is our aim to provide many varied types of activities to our service users including home life skills, personal care skills, housework, meal preparation, shopping within the Community, gardening, social and community-based activities.
The Home provides plenty of exercises/ stimulating activities outside the premises:
- walks with the group to such places as Cobtree Manor Park, Capstone Farm Park, The Strand, Leeds Castle, Aylesford Priory, and all the different riversides.
- horse riding lessons
- Bowling and eating out
- lots of picnics out with the group as the weather permits.
We have access to many different types of Community based activities such as speech therapists, qualified masseurs for relaxation, a therapeutic swimming pool, horse riding centre, gymnasium, snoozelem room (again for relaxation), art and crafts (pottery and paint etc).
The Home will strive to maintain good links with the local health and social care services, community groups and other local resources.
At St Leonards Place we have our own transport that is available to all of our service users to enable them to participate in outside activities and other places of interest.
We have nights out as well.
“As a service we go above and beyond making sure our service users have the same opportunities. In fact, I would say that our clients probably do a lot more than most people because us as a service make sure they have the same opportunities as others based on the needs of the individual and as the weather improves then there are different trips we can be doing. But even in the winter months we still (as much as possible) take our clients for a walk whether it be braving the elements or visiting a garden center. Here at St Leonard’s this is what we pride ourselves on and I’s proud to be part of our team” Gill
