Care Unsung Hero Medway Award 2023

Russell Martin from St Leonards Place won the Care Unsung Hero Award at this year’s A Better Medway Awards!

The formal ceremony of achievement took place on Thursday 30th November 2023 at The Queens Hall, The Corn Exchange, Northgate, The Precinct, Rochester ME1 1LS.

The staff and residents come together to celebrate and reward a long career in care of our founder Russell Martin.

This award recognises the achievements of an individual or team who always go above and beyond their job description or step outside of their normal work to help us deliver our objectives. By doing this they have bought change and benefits to customers through their:

  • creative thinking
  • commitment
  • vision
  • determination
  • drive.

It's unlikely the winner of this award will have been formally recognised by the council for their efforts in the past.

This should be an individual or team who:

  • consistently make a difference to the lives of service users, customers and colleagues
  • go beyond what would normally be expected of them.
  • regularly go out of their way to help others without being asked.
  • provide excellent service to customers and colleagues.
  • embodies the spirit of Medway and believe in what we do, showing commitment to our values.

“Dear Russell, Congratulations on your well-deserved award! You are an inspiration! I hope you are as happy as we are! This award is so impressive, and it couldn't have gone to a more brilliant person.” (Valeria Costinar – manager at St Leonards Place)

“thank you very much for my card and gift... Today was quite humbling... And I realise most people in the room must have thought how could he have been running a business for 31 years did the man start when he was 5 years ... But seriously...This award is "our" award.... I could not have done it without those around me like yourselves... Lovely afternoon.” (Russell Martin – in a message to all staff)
