Leading the Way in Water Literacy: Turning Knowledge Into Action
We’re proud to share that Val has officially become accredited as Water Literate after successfully completing the Water Literacy Programme — an inspiring initiative aimed at tackling one of the UK’s most pressing environmental challenges: water scarcity.
This achievement marks an important first step in promoting awareness and practical action to help reduce water demand both at home and at work.
Why Water Literacy Matters
Water is something many of us take for granted — but across the UK, the risk of “dry taps” is becoming increasingly real. The Water Literacy Programme equips participants with essential knowledge and practical tools to use water wisely and lead by example within their homes, communities, and workplaces.
As a newly accredited, water-literate “change-maker,” Val is committed to sharing this message and encouraging others to join the movement toward a sustainable water future.
Watch and Reflect
To better understand what’s at stake and the difference we can all make, Val invites everyone to watch two short, powerful videos presented during the programme:
After watching, take a moment to reflect on these questions:
- At home – What small changes can you make? Try taking shorter showers, running full washing machine or dishwasher loads, turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, and fixing dripping taps quickly.
- At work – How can we all help? Turn off taps fully, report leaks immediately, only run dishwashers when full, and avoid leaving taps running when cleaning.
Balancing Care With Conservation
In our work, particularly in care services, there can be no compromise on hygiene, infection control, or personal care. Every handwash, cleaning routine, and care task remains essential.
The aim isn’t to do less — it’s to do the same vital work with greater awareness. For instance, turning taps off between tasks where safe, or promptly reporting a dripping faucet, can make a real difference without impacting care standards.
Every Drop Counts
Water literacy isn’t just about knowledge; it’s about turning that knowledge into meaningful action. As Val puts it, “Every small change really can help turn a drop of knowledge into a wave of change.”
Let’s join together in using water thoughtfully — at home, at work, and in our communities — to ensure a sustainable water future for everyone in the UK.
