St Leonards Place Volunteers at Medway’s Community Climate Fair
On Saturday 3 October 2026, the St Leonards Place team joined Medway Council’s Climate Response team to volunteer at the Community Climate Fair at St John’s Church in Chatham. It was a fantastic opportunity to support local climate action, connect with residents, and learn more about the practical changes that can help protect our environment.
A morning of practical climate action
The fair brought together local community groups, stalls, talks and workshops, all focused on positive, achievable actions people can take in Medway. Visitors explored everything from reducing waste and saving water to supporting nature and making more sustainable everyday choices.
One of the highlights was learning about Medway’s Repair Cafés, which run in local libraries and community hubs. Volunteer repair experts help people bring broken items—such as toasters, lamps, clothes, bikes, toys and crockery—back to life, giving belongings a second life before considering replacement.
Small changes, big impact
The event also highlighted simple ways to use water more wisely, alongside wider advice on reducing waste and making climate-friendly choices at home and at work. These everyday actions may feel small individually, but together they support Medway’s wider ambition to reduce emissions and build resilience to climate change.
The fair concluded with a screening of The People’s Emergency Brief: Nature and Climate Crisis, a powerful film highlighting the urgency of the climate and nature emergency and the importance of changing our daily habits.
Thank you to our volunteers
A big thank you to everyone from ST Leonards Place who gave their time to support the event. Volunteering at the fair was a great reminder that climate action is something we can all be part of—through repairing rather than replacing, using resources carefully, and sharing practical ideas within our communities.
