The team was asked to watch a video from Professor Michael West with the title “What is the difference between a real team and a pseudo team?”

After watching the above video, the ST Leonards Place team was asked to answer the following questions:

After watching the above video, the ST Leonards Place team was asked to answer the following questions:
1. Describe our team. Is it a real team or a pseudo team?
2. What is the ideal size for a team in your opinion?
3. What are our team objectives?

Please see below the answer given to the above question by each member of the team:

Gillian

1. In my opinion our team is a real team and is made up of a total of 9 members of staff.

In my opinion, there is enough staff to cover as and when necessary, at times of illness/holiday, etc.

2. In my opinion, I think that our real team has an ideal number of members of staff.

There are enough of us to cover sickness and holidays.

3. Our team objectives ...communication is key, working well together as a team and knowing what our roles are within our team.

Our aim is to deliver the best care we can for our clients.

Jackie

1. Real team

2. For me, it could be any size from one person onwards as long as you have good communication and work together.

3. Looking to improve all the time and agreeing on the way forward. Continuing with staff meetings and supervision to encourage communication. Also, to be compassionate and encouraging to each other and to clients.

Russell

1. Real team.

2. A team needs to be as big as it is to get the job done, too small will cause excessive pressure to all involved, too big is a waste of resources and difficult to manage and much more difficult to work within the world today (stress/mental health/ever-changing working practices and so on)

3. Team objectives remain consistent for all involved, and good care for clients, staff, and the business because, without any of the aforementioned, there would be no need for objectives.

In looking forward we must remember what got us this far.

Our clients will need reassurance for the future as they will require care beyond some of the existing team's career paths...❣️

Caron

1. Real team

2. I like to think our existing staff team works together well as a team. And are there to support each other and clients as much as possible. To make their lives fulfilled.

3. Objectives, although we are an aging team and some staff have worked with the same clients since they were in their teens, I still feel we have a lot to offer our clients. A friendly safe home environment and a consistent lifestyle. Here's hoping the future staff can continue where we left off.

Penny

1. Real team

2. The number in our team has fluctuated over the years. During COVID we were at times smaller, now we are bigger, but we have always, no matter what, been a team.

3. I think that good communication, consistency, and compassion make an effective team, which in turn ensures happy clients, staff, and a successful business 😀

Linda

1.  Real team.

2.  I think that the number of our team is just right now with enough staff to cover shifts/holidays etc., which makes it fair for us all.  We have always been a good team and work well together no matter what challenges we face.

3.  Consistency is a priority, so we know exactly what is going on, and good communication is so we understand our roles and what is expected of us to do our job to the best of our abilities, and of course compassion which goes a long way in making us feel valued in the workplace and feel supported and a part of the whole team.

Valeria

1. We are a real team

2. As mentioned before me, the number of team members is determined by the resident's needs.

3. Our objective is to deliver outstanding care for our residents by working together as a team.
