St Leonards Place, a proud and active member of the Medway Community Climate Working Group, was a key player in the tree planting event. In February 2025, the group, with the support of over 100 local volunteers, including St Leonards Place, planted 3500 trees at the new Deangate Community Parkland.

The tree species chosen for the planting event were carefully selected to suit the local area, enhancing the existing flora on the site of special scientific interest and ancient woodland to the north. This diverse selection included oak, field maple, hawthorn, birch, and nearly 100 disease-resistant elm trees, enriching our local environment.

This tree planting event was not just a local effort, but part of the larger Kent and Medway Plan Tree initiative. This initiative, funded by the Local Authority Treescape Fund, is a testament to our collective commitment to the environment. It aims to extend tree cover in Kent by 1.5 million trees, a significant step towards a greener future that we can all be proud of.

It is often said that throughout a person's life, there are three significant accomplishments to strive for: planting a tree, building a house, and raising a child. Planting a tree symbolizes the importance of contributing to the environment and leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. Building a house represents the creation of a stable and nurturing home, a place where memories are made and families are formed. Finally, raising a child embodies the responsibility and joy of nurturing a new life, guiding them as they grow, learn, and eventually contribute to the world in their own unique way. Together, these three acts reflect the essence of a fulfilling and meaningful life.
